Gemla was founded in the small village of Diö in 1861 and stands as Sweden’s oldest furniture manufacturer. The first in Sweden to introduce the Bohemian art of shaping and taming wood, the company is characterised by inventiveness, over the years developing a tradition of refining technique.

Materials Materials Products have a durability that last between 50-100 years and they offer a service for restoration. Upholstery in natural material- latex, horsehair and wool. Vegetable tanned leather or eco fabrics. All surface treatment is either stain or waterbased laquer.
Production Production Electricity produced by the river next door. The minimal waste produced is used in the heating system as a complement. 95% of packaging is made out of cardboard that is picked up and used several times before it is recycled
People People Everything is made locally in Diö, Sweden, paying staff Swedish salaries that are 3-4 times higher than counterparts who manufacture in Eastern Europe.
