Birch Selsdon, Public Areas

Doors are finally open for our latest hotel project, Birch! We were super excited when we were approached to work on this project because the client, Birch, were so passionate about sustainability. The hotel is comprised of 181 guest rooms, multiple bars and restaurants, wellness spaces, co-working areas, outdoor terraces, and a lido - all of which we helped specify, order, and install! As part of this, we were given the chance to collaborate with Sebastian Cox, who was tasked with creating signature pieces for the hotel using wood from the surrounding 230 acres of land, which was milled and kilned at their workshop in Kent. This was part of a much larger rewilding project that Sebastian Cox and Imogen McAndrew took on. Dodds and Shute worked closely with A-nrd studio, Sella Concept and Pillar, helping to specify sustainable suppliers and pieces within budget, which helped their designs come to life! Working closely with both designers, Jonny Manto from our team had the chance to select and procure vintage furniture which we reupholstered in recycled fabrics. Another exciting aspect of this project was getting to work with Despina Wotton, who curated beautiful artwork from local artists.
