Imperial Health Charity’s Covid-19 Relief Fund Update
Return to JournalDuring this challenging time as a result of the coronavirus crisis, our donations will enable the Imperial Health Charity to provide emergency support to the most vulnerable patients and our remarkable NHS staff.
Thanks to the extraordinary support of individuals, philanthropists, local businesses, schools, community groups and corporate partners, the Imperial Health Charity has raised over £2.5 million to help our hospitals fight coronavirus. Through our Covid-19 Relief Fund, we’re helping our hospitals right now - as well as making plans to provide long-term support as they recover and rebuild. All the money raised will go directly to support three key areas: staff wellbeing, financial aid to patients and their families, and improved technology and infrastructure.
With your support, they’ve also:
• awarded emergency grants to help patients and their families who find themselves in financial hardship, supporting their travel, food, accommodation, and in some difficult circumstances, funeral costs
• funded an upgrade to the wifi service across our hospitals, giving patients, staff and volunteers access to faster, reliable internet and helping them stay connected to their loved ones
• distributed tablet devices for patients recovering from the virus in isolation, keeping patients entertained and enabling them to speak to their family and friends via video call
• funded an expansion of the Trust’s counselling service, CONTACT, providing additional counselling support for staff through one-to-one and group sessions
• created calming respite spaces in which staff can relax and recharge before returning to work, with resources including hand creams, facial wipes, tissues, small snacks and a radio provided for every room
• provided a temporary free hairdressing service at three of our hospitals to ensure our NHS colleagues are able to work comfortably in their protective equipment.
In March they set up emergency response teams at three of their hospital sites (Charing Cross, Hammersmith and St Mary’s) with over 300 dedicated volunteers signing up to support them. Their volunteers are lending a helping hand seven days a week from 7.45am to 8.15pm, delivering essential supplies and healthy meals to staff, as well as managing their three pop-up shops which are entirely free for NHS staff.
To date, their teams have delivered more than 149,000 meals to NHS staff with, 323 volunteers completing 2,391 shifts totalling 8,211 hours. Between March and May, they also ran three free staff shops with almost 100,000 visits in that time. The team is currently delivering 7,000 wellbeing bags packed with essential toiletries, snacks and other useful items to staff on their critical care wards, as well as 1,000 patient care packages.
Here at Dodds & Shute we would like to extend all our gratitude to the fantastic work the charity are dong to support our NHS.
