Virgin Management, Whitfield Studios

At Dodds & Shute, we believe design should be beautiful inside and out. When Virgin tasked us with furnishing their new head office, Whitfield Studios in London, we saw it as a unique opportunity to put together an office that exemplifies sustainable design. Over two years of collaboration with Virgin’s sustainability teams and architect White Red, we delivered a space that balances environmental responsibility with beauty and functionality helping deliver Virgin's vision and bringing the brand to life. From the initial consultation to product selection and installation, every decision was shaped by clear sustainability goals: adhere to robust sustainability standards, minimize carbon emissions, prioritize recycling and reuse, and ensure good governance within the supply chain.

Key achievements of the project include: 32% of products were reused or reupholstered, 76% of new products contained recycled materials, 100% responsibly sourced wood, 94% of products sourced from Europe, 55% of new products certified for sustainability. Circular economy principles were embraced. Task chairs and lounge seating were given a new life through reupholstery with sustainable fabrics, proving that reused furniture can be both functional and stylish. The majority of the new products that were sourced were designed for disassembly, allowing components to be replaced or recycled at the end of their lifecycle.

But sustainability didn’t stop at furniture. Upholstery fabrics were chosen with high recycled or natural content and low VOC finishes were selected to enhance indoor air quality showing that every detail matters in creating a truly sustainable space. This project is a testament to what’s possible when sustainability is integrated at every stage of design. We’re proud to have played a role in bringing Virgin’s vision to reality.
