Sustainable product series: High Stools we’ve been using lately
Return to JournalAt Dodds and Shute, we care deeply about understanding our supply chain – how furniture products are made, where, out of what materials and by whom. In 2018, we launched our supplier sustainability audit to do just that. We have now gathered data on over 200 FF&E manufacturers’ practices. Suppliers who score above 70% on our audit are considered on our sustainability ranking list.
Here are some of the high stools from our sustainable suppliers that we’ve been using on our projects lately.
PLC Stool, by Modus
As a certified BCorp, MODUS manufacture in Somerset using 100% renewable energy and a local supply chain to minimise environmental impact. They achieved carbon-neutral-plus status in 2019 by protecting forests in the Amazon and planting trees in UK schools. Over 90% of their collection is FSC-certified, and all in-house joinery uses low-VOC, water-based lacquers. Their products are designed for easy disassembly with sustainably sourced materials, including fully traceable hides, feathers, and 100% recycled FSC-certified cork.
The PLC Stool features a solid timber footrest and offers eco-conscious options in oak, upholstered finishes, or a matte paint.
- FSC certified upon request.
- Indoor Advantage Gold certified.
- CertiPUR-certified foam.
- 90.82% renewable contents and 97.49% recyclable components.
We recently used the PLC stool at the new Virgin head office, Whitfield Studios. See more from this project here.
Mathilda Bar Stool, by Moroso
Founded as a family firm in 1952, Moroso produces nearly 100% of its furniture in Italy and was the first upholstered furniture manufacturer to achieve ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications. Their designs incorporate low-emission, recyclable, and responsibly sourced components like FSC-certified wood and recycled materials, emphasising durability and eco-consciousness.
The Mathilda Bar Stool, available in ash or oak, features a stackable design that minimises environmental impact and maximises longevity.

With Greenguard-certified materials and local production facilities in Fredericia and Svendborg, the brand prioritises European suppliers to avoid overseas transport and subcontractors.
