Our Trip To Milan
Return to JournalDodds & Shute headed out to Milan this year with new colleague Michael in tow, who maybe wasn't quite aware of just how much furniture was in store for him. We headed straight from the airport to the fair to ensure we saw as many of our suppliers as we could. The following photos are our highlights of our first day and night which include Poltrona Frau, Cassina, Knoll, Vitra, De La Espada, Kristalia & the Lee Broom party outside Bar Basso.
Our second day in Milan saw us heading back to the fair to catch up on some of the stands we missed on Tuesday, including Carl Hansen, Flos, Gervasoni and Galotti & Radice. We also took in an intimate Jazz performance courtesy of Kristalia and went to Tom Dixon's epic party in Rotonda Della Besana, a beautiful 17th century church. See below for our favourite photos from our second day and night.
Our third and final day in Milan saw us desperately scrambling around the city centre to try and take in as many of the exhibitions as we could, starting off at Rotonda Della Besana to see the Tom Dixon display during the day. We then travelled to Via Santa Marta to see the showroom of BDDW & Apparatus the Brooklyn based designers leading the revival in American design with their exquisite attention to detail and materials.
After that we visited Rosanna Orlandi, to see the latest collection of Rosana's (an essential for any visit to Milan) and took in Nendo's highly creative interpretation of 50 Chairs influenced by the abstract lines and grids used in manga-style comic book imagery. There was still enough time for us to see the Wallpaper arcade where Stellarworks had a wonderfully talented leather worker crafting small gifts and just outside Pinch were exhibiting their stunning new design the Euler table, a 10x10 grid of English oak inlaid with white resin. Our final stop was the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II before our flight back to London.
