Carbon offsetting by protecting Guatemalan rainforest

Return to Journal

Dodds & Shute is proud to offset the carbon footprint of all furniture we supply through protecting rainforest in Guatemala. In 2024, we offset over 1,000 tonnes of carbon – equal to protecting nearly 4,300 trees.

While our focus as a business is on using the most sustainable suppliers and helping our clients to make sustainable selections, we recognise that we will have a residual impact on the climate. So, we offset the carbon emissions of our work to make all our projects carbon neutral.

We do this by funding rainforest protection on the Guatemalan coast. This ecosystem is under threat from deforestation, and forests are being converted into cropland and cattle pastures. One of the main drivers of deforestation is the lack of economic and employment opportunities for local people. The project that we support in Guatemala – the Conservation Coast - works to offer impoverished communities a more sustainable way of making a living such as eco-coffee and cacao (for chocolate) farming.

The project protects unique, biodiverse forest that is critical habitat for hundreds of bird species, in particular birds that migrate between North and South America. It also supports access to education and healthcare for girls and women, helping to provide opportunities for marginalised people.

We are proud to help fund this vital work, which wouldn’t be possible without the support of our clients.
