Dodds & Shute Supports the Better Business Act

Return to Journal

Dodds & Shute is proud to support the Better Business Act and to raise our voice as part of an important mission: to support a change to UK law to ensure that all companies align the interests of people, planet and profit.

As a proud B Corp since 2022, in order to become certified, we had to do just this. We changed our articles of association so that we are legally accountable to all stakeholders – workers, community, customers, the environment – not just shareholders.

We not only believe this is the right way to run a business, and the only way we feel comfortable running a business, but also research shows that stakeholder-governed businesses outperform traditional businesses. For example, small and medium sized UK B Corps experienced a 23.2% increase in turnover, compared to the national average of 16.8% between 2023 and 2024.

The Better Business Act is about transforming the way we do business so that every single company in the UK takes ownership of its social and environmental impact. The climate emergency and social inequality are profound and pressing problems facing the world which are too big to be solved by any one organisation or part of society alone. Facing these problems will require all hands on deck. We believe business has a critical role to play.

Research also shows that UK voters and consumers want business to do better. 76% of people believe business law needs to change to give businesses a legal responsibility to prioritise people and the planet alongside making a profit . In short, the world needs every business at its best - creating good jobs, helping to fix pressing problems and adding value to society.

We have joined more than 3,000 UK companies (as of June 2025) advocating for policy change. Will you join us? Act now. See more here: Better Business Act
